good habits, How to prevent Covid infection, preventive measures for coronavirus

Among the things that the COVID-19 pandemic brought to the fore is the importance of following habits that are good for an individual as well as society. While the COVID-19 pandemic might be new and novel, it nevertheless is a disease that grows and spreads only when people do not pay attention to basic things such as personal hygiene or a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, the overdependence of people, especially those living in metros, on processed food also contributes to the growth of disease due to the increase in immunity levels among those people who consume a lot of processed food.

In this blog, Student Cover brings you certain good habits that can not only save a person from getting infected by COVID-19 but also go a long way in preventing such a pandemic in the future. They are as follows:

1. Maintain Personal Hygiene – As Gandhi used to say, “Cleanliness is next to godliness”. In every civilized society, cleanliness is given utmost importance because it helps to keep germs and disease-causing microbes away. Personal hygiene includes:

a. Washing hands regularly for at least 10 seconds

b. Bathing regularly

c. Wearing clean clothes.

d. Keeping the surroundings clean as well

The above measures will not let germs find a suitable environment to breed and grow which further helps prevent viral diseases (such as COVID-19) that one might have accidentally contacted from getting inside one’s body.

2. Follow Healthy Lifestyle – By following a healthy lifestyle, one keeps the body away from those things that cause both short and long-term harm to the body. For example:

a. Doing regular exercise. This not only helps to reduce unwanted fat from the body but also improves the body’s ability to bear external and internal stress.

b. Eating a balanced diet containing the right proportion of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals and avoiding psychotropic substances such as tobacco and alcohol.

A healthy lifestyle not only prevents disease but also increases the longevity of a person.

3. Shun Processed Food and Go Organic – Excessive use of chemicals to preserve food for a longer period of time has severely affected the health of those who consume such chemical-laden foods. In countries like the US, the prevalence of processed food has led to the consumer developing different kinds of allergies and infections. When it comes to food, it is always advised to go for organic.

Organic foods are those foods that use no or minimum amount of chemicals. Moreover, processed foods have lower amounts of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and proteins as compared to organic food. It has also been observed that those who live in big cities and consume processed food have lower immunity against diseases and infections. They also suffer from allergies which people consuming organic food usually don’t suffer from.

4. Regular Health Check-ups and Timely Immunization – Like a motor vehicle, one’s body also demands regular check-ups and maintenance. Undergoing regular check-ups is good for ensuring a healthy body because it helps in detecting a disease or ailment before it grows into an infection. In addition to that, one must get oneself vaccinated against diseases and infections that one is likely to catch in the future. Vaccination is an artificial way of building the body’s immunity against a specific disease. These days, there are vaccines for a large number of diseases and infections available in a single cocktail shot.

5. Being Environmentally Consciousness – The last but the most important habit that one should develop is to become environmentally conscious. This involves doing things that do not adversely affect the environment. They can be as simple as:

a. Switching off the lights when not in use.

b. Turning off the water tap immediately after use or controlling the water flow of the toilet flush. This is because any wastage of water or electricity leads to increased exploitation of natural resources. For example, if a person switches off the light, the power saved by one can be used by another, thereby doing away with the need to produce more power by burning fossil fuel which adds to global warming and climate change.

Let’s Wrap Up!

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic like any other virus or bacteria grows only if it is provided with a suitable environment. If one maintains personal hygiene and a healthy lifestyle, a person creates an environment, both at home and in his/her body that is not conducive to germs and diseases.

A healthy lifestyle includes eating a balanced diet and doing regular exercise. Wherever possible, one should also try to eat organic food and shun processed foods that lower the body’s immunity levels. One can increase the body’s immunity level artificially through vaccines. In the end, whether it is a disease or food, everything comes from nature. If people become environmentally conscious and stop over-exploiting nature, it can go a long way in preventing COVID-19 type disease in the future.
